Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. Soy’s greatest advantage is that it is eco-friendly, renewable, American grown, sustainable, and carbon neutral.
Soy candles burn cleaner, last longer, and hold more fragrance. They contain no toxic chemicals or carcinogenic compounds. Soy wax is softer than paraffin wax and has a lower melting temperature. Soy wax cleans up easily with soap and hot water.
Soy wax has a memory. To prevent “tunneling” you must have a full melt pool before distinguishing the flame. A full melt pool means the wax has been heated long enough to reach the edge of the container. This usually occurs in about 1-2 hours. A full melt pool should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep which will allow the fragrance to disperse more completely into the room.
No candle can be “soot free”, but natural wax candles do have less soot. Anytime you add fragrance oils or dye, you will have soot. Most importantly, the soot from soy wax does not contain any toxins that are found in paraffin wax. To remove any discoloration from your container, wipe with a damp paper towel.
Is my candle sweating? Soy wax will release excess oil during temperature changes. A small pool of moisture will form on the top of the candle. This in no way will affect the burn ability of the candle. To remove the oil, use a paper towel and gently wipe it clean.
Frosting is a natural byproduct of a natural wax and in no way affects the burn ability or fragrance of a candle. It is caused by tiny crystal growth that forms on the top and sides of the wax.
The “mushroom” shape formed at the end of the candle wick after burning is the result of carbon buildup, where the flame consumes more wax than it can burn. If this occurs trim the carbon buildup off the wick between burnings.
Phthalate Free - Phthalates are used to dissolve fragrance raw materials when making fragrance oils. Recently there have been concerns that high levels of Phthalates can cause a host of health issues.
